A Hampeth couple are hoping to gain lottery funding to the tune of seventeen million pounds, to finance a major tourist development in the sleepy Northumbrian village. The Hampeth Millennium Garden is the brainchild of Henry and Bertha Rimblock, who are planning to convert land behind their modest abode into one of the counties top attractions Speaking at a news conference held in their back kitchen, the Rimblocks outlined their plans for the garden and showed the gathering a scale model they had made from cereal boxes. The garden will cover some forty square metres of land and contain a mixture of flowers and shrubs with a water feature in one corner. The lottery grant is needed to pay for the building of a car park big enough to hold ten thousand vehicles, a cafe and a visitor center, they said. “It’s for the people of Hampeth” said Bertha. “We want to put this place on the map”. The Rimblocks plan to open the garden at weekends only, because Henry, a Thistledown weaver, works nightshift Monday to Friday.
