A proposed merger between two local Christmas lights committees seems to have blown a fuse. The planned amalgamation of Alnwick and Shilbottle Christmas lights was to include a string of lights running from Alnwick market place to the Farriers Arms and a large illuminated display in the shape of a lobster and a wasp at the top of Keepers bank. Unfortunately a disagreement about which end gets plugged in to the mains has brought the plans to a halt. Chairman of Shilbottle lights told us “Whey man, them lot in Anik think wa donnad, thu wan us te plug it ahl in at wor end cos thu recon itille be a lot cheepa cos itlle be flowin doon hill, mebee so but if its ahl plugged in at wor end we’ll hadda pay furrit ahl and thas nay way thats ganna happen” The chairman of Alnwick Christmas lights Ray Watsheworth declined to comment.
