The Humming Trout

A creature rare and mysterious is the Humming Trout. Apart from tales of fleeting glimpses of a deep red fish of about one and a half feet long, the Humming Trout has never yet been seen. The Humming Trouts existence is only known of because of its song. The species is known to frequent the waters of the River Aln and The Calishes and is often heard in a stretch of the Aln between the “Black Hole” and Flint Mill. Many a local fishermen has tried to catch a “Hummer”, with no successes. One man a Mr. Ruffus Gublar, claims that he hooked a Humming Trout but the fish “screamed like a wounded child”and he let it slip the fly. Local folklore states that to hear the song of the Humming Trout is a bad omen, “If a singing troot is hord, ahl ya life will seem absord”.
